Hollywood actress, Maria Bello, known for her roles in “Coyote Ugly”, and Prisoner, has recently joined the bandwagon of famous gay celebrities by coming out as gay, much to the surprise of celeb gossip mills and gay rights advocates.
Her coming out as one of many gay celebrities has come as a greater surprise due to the fact that Bello is a mother to a 12 year old son named Jackson, whom she gave birth to while in a straight relationship with now ex-boyfriend, Dan McDermott. She decided that she needed to come out not only to her son, but also to the world about her long-term romantic relationship with her best friend and soul mate, Clare Dunn.

Bello recalls being extremely nervous about coming out to her son, especially since the coming out process involved telling him about the woman whom she loved, Clare, a friend who was like a godmother to the young boy. She recalled her son’s pleasant and mature response to her coming out to him when he said, “Mom, love is love, whatever you are”. She also recalled with pleasure and gratitude, the positive responses, love and support received from her parents and from her former lover, McDermott, when she came out to them.
