Things Straight People Should Stop Saying About Gay People

Things Straight People Should Stop Saying About Gay People

Homosexuality and gay marriage are very controversial subjects for us living in the United States. We are divided between ultra conservatives who believe love and sexuality should only be between a man and woman and on the other extreme, we have staunch liberals who say that the conservatives have no right to dictate how others live their lives and therefore there should be same sex marriage. With so much controversy on gay lifestyle, there are six things that shouldn’t be said or assumed about gay people.

1. Assuming that gays have a ‘gay lifestyle’. Gays complain about people calling it a ‘lifestyle’. They claim that they were born with it and that they cannot help it. The word ‘lifestyle’, according to them, implies a choice. Something that gays adamantly deny.

2. Claiming that gay sex is not natural because the parts don’t fit. Gays argue against this argument because there is gay sex. End of story.

3. Stating that homosexuality is a perversion. Gays argue against this by claiming that it has been medically proven that homosexuality is a natural form of sexuality.

4. Saying that gays can change their orientation. Gays argue against this logic by claiming that the majority of gays that go through ‘gay conversion’ therapies have not come out ‘straight’.

5. Saying that gays should have civil unions, not marriage. They say this is not fair because straight people enjoy financial protections, while civil unions aren’t able to provide those protections.

6. Arguing that the Bible forbids homosexuality. The homosexual community decries this as ‘biased’ and narrow-minded mentality. Although many Christians say, “I love gay people”, they still have a narrow-minded perspective towards gays, according to the homosexual community.
