Gay Love in Fashion Field: Tom Ford and Richard Buckley

Tom Ford and Richard Buckley are contemporary icons whose gay love story places them among a handful of famous gay people who are out and proud about their sexual orientation. Fashion designer, Tom Ford, known for his classic styles for women, “knew” at the age of 25 that he wanted fashion editor, Buckley, to be his gay love, and partner for life. Their relationship of 25 years and counting, has withstood the test of time, work pressure, and other issues which plague gay couples, especially those who are both celebrities.

They met when Ford was 25 years old, and Buckley, 38; at the time, Ford was assistant to Cathy Hardwick, and Buckley was serving as editor of two magazines. Ford was described as naïve by Buckley, while the latter recalled how unnerved he was by the intensity of Buckley’s stare during their first meeting at a fashion event. Many years forward, however, the two look to be very much in love, and state that they cannot imagine life without each other’s presence in it. Their love story is heartwarming and is sure to serve as inspiration and motivation to other member’s of the gay community who are looking for their own special someone to share a lifelong connection with.
