People choose to come out of the closet in several ways. Some of them take to twitter while some others take to giving candid interviews. NBA player Jason Collins comes out in an essay in Sports Illustrated! Along with choosing one of the most innovative ways to come out as a gay NBA player, he has poured out his hearts in his words. The essay not just describes how relieved he feels by revealing to everybody that he is gay, it also shows his confidence that this won’t change his status as a NBA player in any way.
Jason Collins describes how he has been pondering over this decision since 2011 like other famous gay people and how he has chosen to finally come out. He describes how he has dated women when he was young like any other guy of his age and how he eventually found out that women were not for him after he got engaged! He writes that the first person to whom he spoke to about his sexual orientation was his aunt, Teri and she supported him fully. He describes this as a “sweet release’ which helped him with concentrating better on his playing. He asserts the fact that nobody in this world, whether gay or straight, needs to live in fear.
