Religious Leaders Make Supportive Statements about LGBT Individuals

Religious Leaders Make Supportive Statements about LGBT Individuals

A surprisingly large number of people have stood up for gay and LGBT rights and have expressed views in support of rights of LGBT people. A number of influential religious leaders have taken a step ahead in making positive statements relating to issues like gay marriage and gay love. They are helping to bring about a change in people’s attitudes and buttressing those who are trying to support the right of these people. These comments are a welcome step and support for all the gay rights groups. This type of support can help with overcoming religious opposition to gay people.

Pope Francis has stated that he is non-judgemental about gay individuals and their religious ideas and leanings. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has also made statements against homophobia. A number of Jewish religious leaders like Rabbi Laura Geller and Rabbi David Wolpe have stated their support for same-sex weddings and the rights of gay individuals. The Dalai Lama has also stated that he does not understand why people’s personal relationships should be a problem if they are not harming others in any way. Encouragingly, Muslim leaders like Ani Zooneveld and Rep. Keith Ellison have spoken in favour of progressive values and tolerance. Christian leaders like Sister Simone Campbell, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Pat Robertson have also lent their voices to this cause.
